This beach consists of coastal sediment and boulders of volcanic and pyroclastic rock called ignimbrite. This rock appears to have unique depositional structure characteristic of past volcanic material flows. In the north of Karang Naya, there is also Batu Karut site which is a volcanic rock with columnar joint structure. This site is part of the Samudra Beach Hotel area. According to legend, Batu Karut is believed to be the gateway to the phantom kingdom of Ratu Laut Kidul, the Queen of the Southern Sea kingdom (Nyi Roro Kidul). Not far from Batu Karut, there is also a rock outcrop that represent the same rock types in the area of Mount Tangkil, where some statues of cultural importance have also been found. Karang Naya and its surroundings are part of the Sakawayana Nature Park area, where you can still find monkey habitat around Batu Karut complex.
